Spicy grapefruit margarita

{Photo credit: Bon Appetit}

I am a huge fan of margaritas.  I especially love sipping them on patio on a nice, summer day.  So when I saw this one in the latest issue of Bon Appetit magazine I was intrigued, habanero chiles in margaritas?

What do you think, yes or no?

Spicy grapefruit margarita (recipe from Bon Appetit)

Ingredients

2 cups plus 2 tablespoons tequila
1-2 habanero chiles, halved
Kosher salt
6 cups fresh pink grapefruit juice

Preparation

Mix tequila and chiles in a large pitcher. Let steep 3 hours, or longer if a spicier tequila is desired. Discard chiles. Cover; chill.

Pour enough water onto a small plate to cover. Pour enough salt onto another small plate to cover by 1/4". Dip rims of eight 12-ounce. glasses into water, then into salt to lightly coat; fill with ice. Add grapefruit juice to pitcher with tequila. Fill with ice; stir until cold. Divide drink among glasses.

  2. I had a spicy fruity marg at Chevy's and it was delic! They don't make it too spicy so I couldn't really tell that it was but it sure was tasty! I bet we would love this!

  3. I've always wanted to make pretty looking margaritas (or cocktails) like this! But, I'm not legal yet so there's no point. In september, after my birthday I definitely will, so thanks in advance for this recipe!!

  4. Big thumbs up YES! I always throw a sliced jalapeno in my margarita and it is fantastic. You don't get too much spice; you get TONS of great flavor. Try it!!

  7. This looks really, really good! Reading the recipe which calls for 2 cups of tequila kind of made my stomach turn right now...but that's for 8 glasses. :) XO

  10. I made these - using 2 chilies. They were perfect for a hot day on the boat, but the habanero gets spicier the longer they sit. I froze a second batch and you definitely get the heat!
